EJM College, Leh celebrates International Women’s day, 8th of March 2022.
Under the initiative of Principal EJM College, Leh, the College Student Council along with the College Gender Sensitization Committee- (GS-CASH) celebrated International Women’s day on 8th of March in the college premises. The event began with a welcome address by the College Student Council President, Stanzin Chosphel. The event was specially held to felicitate female students of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College who had made a mark in varied fields and also to create awareness about Gender sensitization and Gender equality. Congratulating all on the special occasion of International Women’s Day, the Principal of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, Prof. Tashi Ldawa in his address stressed on the importance of women empowerment . He also urged all students to promote gender sensitization. The event began with talks by the college faculty who presented their views on gender sensitivity and women emancipation. The first speaker, Ms. Sonam Angmo, (Asstt.Prof. English, Convener- EJMC GS-CASH) spoke on ‘ Gender reflections in Society’, and highlighted the need for gender awareness and gender equality. The next speaker, Dr. Sonam Wangmo( Asstt. Prof. EVS) shared her views on the topic: ‘Women and Environment’, and underlined the contribution of women in different fields, while Ms. Hajira Bano( Asstt.Prof. Mass Comm & Journalism) in her talk, foregrounded the status of Ladakhi women and the role of media in women empowerment. The event was also marked by melodic song renditions and traditional dance performance led by students of Ejm College, Leh. The event ended with a special felicitation ceremony to the young female student achievers of Ejm College Leh who had made a mark in diverse fields from NSS, culture to sporting events etc. The proceedings of the event was compered by Zakiya Banoo(General Secretary, Student Council, EJMC). The special event was graced by the Principal of Ejm College Leh, faculty, staff and students.
One-day Workshop organized by JKSPYM in collaboration with Department of Social Work, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College under the theme “Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures”

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India in collaboration with Department of Social Work, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh organized
One-Day workshop for college students on “Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures”. The workshop was participated by 81 students of Department of Social Work,
EJM College. Ms. Stanzin Tseyang, Clinical Psychologist, SNM hospital was one of the resource persons who gave an overview of psychoactive substances.
She also talked about promotion of protective factors against unhealthy habits in youngsters. Principal EJM College, Prof. Tashi Ldawa appreciated
the department for organizing such program. He urged the students to spend their times in developing good habits. He also said that this menace of
drugs has to eradicate from the society and young students can play a very important role in eradication this menace of drugs from the society.
Ms. Yangchan Dolma, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work was other resource person who talked about the Consequences of Drug Use.
She gave emphasis on how drugs work on the brain and how drug addiction gradually develops. She said at the end that drug abuse and alcoholism is
a disease which can be cured and there are many governmental as well as non-governmental organisations who work upon drug abuse and alcoholism.
The NSS Committee of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh today observed ‘Shaheed Diwas day’ commemorating the martyrdom of India’s brave revolutionaries: Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his associates Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar and Shaheed Shivaram Rajguru. A documentary detailing the lives of the brave trio was shown to the students in the college premises. Convener, EJMC NSS Committee: Padma Wangchuk (Asstt.Prof. Zoology) coordinated the proceedings of the event.
The programme began with a welcome address by member of EJMC NSS Committee: Sonam Angmo (Asstt. Prof. English). She highlighted the sacrifice made by the brave revolutionaries in the struggle for India's Independence. Speaking on the importance of the day, Principal Ejm College, Prof. Tashi Ldawa urged the students of the college to seek inspiration from the stories of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru and to always strive to stand for a good cause. NSS Committee members: Jigmet Yangdol (Asstt.Prof Commerce), Yangchan Dolma (Asstt.Prof Social Work) along with college faculty members: Stanzin Itga (Asstt.Prof. Chemistry) and Rinchen Tundup (Asstt.Prof Mathematics) were also present. And above all about 48 students list enclosed of different semester including NSS volunteer witnessed the event.
Department of Philosophy of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh celebrated ‘Bhoti Language Day’ on 04 April 2022 at the college under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The programme was presided over by newly appointed principal EJM College, Professor Samina Iqbal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tashi Dorjey, Assistant professor Philosophy appreciated MP Ladakh Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal for the historic decision of celebrating Bhoti Language Day in Ladakh and for moving a Private Member Bill in the Lok Sabha to include Bhoti Language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He added that Language is the main identity of society and everyone must strive to get Bhoti language added in the 8th schedule.
Professor Samina Iqbal, urged the students to use local language while interacting and asked them to learn and use our own rich and complete language which forms the identity and root of all other cultural aspects.
Dr. Sonam Wangmo, Assistant professor Environmental Science highlighted the importance of observing Bhoti Language Day. Around 6 students spoke on the occasion and besides, enthralling the audience with their poetries, they also laid emphasis on the importance of preserving and promoting mother language. Staff and students of EJM College participated in the event. Tsetan Dolker, Assistant professor Geography presented the vote of thanks.
On 18th of April, 2022 Department of Anthropology and Heritage Club of EJM, college celebrated “WORLD HERITAGE DAY”. On this occasion, the department organized a Heritage walk in Old Town Leh, the main Program was held at Ladakh Art and Media Organisation, A film on “Agriculture Practices and beliefs in Ladakhi Community”, was screened. Project Director of LAMO, Shri Tashi Morup delivered a lecture on “Importance of Heritage, issues and challenges faced by heritage of Ladakh in this Modern Era”, and he also shared his experience and in depth knowledge on the occasion, later the participant presented poster and photo exhibition on the topic “WORLD HERITAGE DAY”. The participants and position holders in poster making competition and photo exhibition were given certificates of achievement. The program was concluded by giving vote of thanks by Dr. Diskit Wangmo, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, EJM College, Leh.
