See MoreAs a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Literary Club of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh invites Nawang Tsering Shakspo for an interactive session and talk on his literary journey.
He spoke in-depth about his literary struggles and how he overcame them. He appealed to the young audience to read, write, promote and preserve Ladakhi Literary tradition.
Shakspo said that there is lot of scope of research in Ladakh but very few researchers come forward and do in-depth research about the rich culture, language and traditions of Ladakh. He further added that young children have great energy and potential. Further, he added that if this energy is used in the right direction then they can do wonders. He added that inculcating reading habit is important to improve writing skills.
Assistant Professor, English, Rinchen Angmo conducted the proceedings of the event, Assistant Professor, English, Sonam Angmo gave the welcome speech and Assistant Professor, English, Hakeema Bano presented the vote of thanks.
IIT experts interact with students at EJM College Leh
An interactive session was organised by Higher Education Department with the students of the EJM College,
ITIs & polytechnic with the delegates from IITs at Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College Leh.
The IIT delegates include Dr Anil Verma, Professor in Chemical Engineering, Head Continuing Education Program, IIT Delhi; Dr Anil Wali, MD FITT, IIT Delhi; Dr Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, Department of Biological Sciences and Bio-Engineering, IIT Kanpur, professor-in-charge, SIIC (Incubation centre), IIT Kanpur; Ankit Saxena, In-charge of social innovation, IIT Kanpur; and Shakti Tripathy, Senior manager, Desai Sethi School of entrepreneurship, IIT Bombay.
Welcome Speech was given by Assistant Professor, Mass Communication Hajira Bano,.
Principal EJM College, Professor Samina Iqbal address the gathering and welcomed all the experts and highlighted the importance of this type of interactive
session and further added that this kind of session should happen in future as well.
An interactive session happened with the students/aspiring entrepreneur, where they showed their interest and discussed business and entrepreneurship ideas in various domains such as food processing, handicrafts, handlooms, textiles etc and they also spoke on the importance of branding, packaging, digital marketing of local products, pricing and market segmentation with the experts from IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur and IIT Mumbai.
The Experts address the gathering about different business ideas, importance of being aware of their surroundings and providing solution to the existing problem is the fundamental of entrepreneurship, development of ideas, business establishment, ideas to make business functional, pursue entrepreneurship based on their passion. Experts gave suggestion to share students/ aspiring entrepreneurs problem statements with the incubation centre (Ladakh) for handholding & expert guidance for the upcoming projects of aspiring entrepreneurs.

EJM College, Leh celebrates International Women’s day, 8th of March 2022.
Under the initiative of Principal EJM College, Leh, the College Student Council along with the College Gender Sensitization Committee- (GS-CASH) celebrated International Women’s day on 8th of March in the college premises. The event began with a welcome address by the College Student Council President, Stanzin Chosphel. The event was specially held to felicitate female students of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College who had made a mark in varied fields and also to create awareness about Gender sensitization and Gender equality. Congratulating all on the special occasion of International Women’s Day, the Principal of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, Prof. Tashi Ldawa in his address stressed on the importance of women empowerment . He also urged all students to promote gender sensitization. The event began with talks by the college faculty who presented their views on gender sensitivity and women emancipation. The first speaker, Ms. Sonam Angmo, (Asstt.Prof. English, Convener- EJMC GS-CASH) spoke on ‘ Gender reflections in Society’, and highlighted the need for gender awareness and gender equality. The next speaker, Dr. Sonam Wangmo( Asstt. Prof. EVS) shared her views on the topic: ‘Women and Environment’, and underlined the contribution of women in different fields, while Ms. Hajira Bano( Asstt.Prof. Mass Comm & Journalism) in her talk, foregrounded the status of Ladakhi women and the role of media in women empowerment. The event was also marked by melodic song renditions and traditional dance performance led by students of Ejm College, Leh. The event ended with a special felicitation ceremony to the young female student achievers of Ejm College Leh who had made a mark in diverse fields from NSS, culture to sporting events etc. The proceedings of the event was compered by Zakiya Banoo(General Secretary, Student Council, EJMC). The special event was graced by the Principal of Ejm College Leh, faculty, staff and students.

Under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), JKSPYM State Level Coordinating Agency (J&KSLCA), of National Institute of Social Defence (NISD),
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India in collaboration with Department of Social Work, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh organized
One-Day workshop for college students on “Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures”. The workshop was participated by 81 students of Department of Social Work,
EJM College. Ms. Stanzin Tseyang, Clinical Psychologist, SNM hospital was one of the resource persons who gave an overview of psychoactive substances.
She also talked about promotion of protective factors against unhealthy habits in youngsters. Principal EJM College, Prof. Tashi Ldawa appreciated
the department for organizing such program. He urged the students to spend their times in developing good habits. He also said that this menace of
drugs has to eradicate from the society and young students can play a very important role in eradication this menace of drugs from the society.
Ms. Yangchan Dolma, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work was other resource person who talked about the Consequences of Drug Use.
She gave emphasis on how drugs work on the brain and how drug addiction gradually develops. She said at the end that drug abuse and alcoholism is
a disease which can be cured and there are many governmental as well as non-governmental organisations who work upon drug abuse and alcoholism.
The NSS Committee of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh today observed ‘Shaheed Diwas day’ commemorating the martyrdom of India’s brave revolutionaries: Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his associates Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar and Shaheed Shivaram Rajguru. A documentary detailing the lives of the brave trio was shown to the students in the college premises. Convener, EJMC NSS Committee: Padma Wangchuk (Asstt.Prof. Zoology) coordinated the proceedings of the event.
The programme began with a welcome address by member of EJMC NSS Committee: Sonam Angmo (Asstt. Prof. English). She highlighted the sacrifice made by the brave revolutionaries in the struggle for India's Independence. Speaking on the importance of the day, Principal Ejm College, Prof. Tashi Ldawa urged the students of the college to seek inspiration from the stories of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru and to always strive to stand for a good cause. NSS Committee members: Jigmet Yangdol (Asstt.Prof Commerce), Yangchan Dolma (Asstt.Prof Social Work) along with college faculty members: Stanzin Itga (Asstt.Prof. Chemistry) and Rinchen Tundup (Asstt.Prof Mathematics) were also present. And above all about 48 students list enclosed of different semester including NSS volunteer witnessed the event.
Department of Philosophy of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh celebrated ‘Bhoti Language Day’ on 04 April 2022 at the college under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The programme was presided over by newly appointed principal EJM College, Professor Samina Iqbal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tashi Dorjey, Assistant professor Philosophy appreciated MP Ladakh Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal for the historic decision of celebrating Bhoti Language Day in Ladakh and for moving a Private Member Bill in the Lok Sabha to include Bhoti Language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He added that Language is the main identity of society and everyone must strive to get Bhoti language added in the 8th schedule.
Professor Samina Iqbal, urged the students to use local language while interacting and asked them to learn and use our own rich and complete language which forms the identity and root of all other cultural aspects.
Dr. Sonam Wangmo, Assistant professor Environmental Science highlighted the importance of observing Bhoti Language Day. Around 6 students spoke on the occasion and besides, enthralling the audience with their poetries, they also laid emphasis on the importance of preserving and promoting mother language. Staff and students of EJM College participated in the event. Tsetan Dolker, Assistant professor Geography presented the vote of thanks.
On 18th of April, 2022 Department of Anthropology and Heritage Club of EJM, college celebrated “WORLD HERITAGE DAY”. On this occasion, the department organized a Heritage walk in Old Town Leh, the main Program was held at Ladakh Art and Media Organisation, A film on “Agriculture Practices and beliefs in Ladakhi Community”, was screened. Project Director of LAMO, Shri Tashi Morup delivered a lecture on “Importance of Heritage, issues and challenges faced by heritage of Ladakh in this Modern Era”, and he also shared his experience and in depth knowledge on the occasion, later the participant presented poster and photo exhibition on the topic “WORLD HERITAGE DAY”. The participants and position holders in poster making competition and photo exhibition were given certificates of achievement. The program was concluded by giving vote of thanks by Dr. Diskit Wangmo, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, EJM College, Leh.

PROGRAMME REPORT ON ‘100 DAYS COUNTDOWN FOR IYD 2022 NSS’
On 6TH OF MAY 2022
As part of the initiative of the Directorate of NSS and Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports, the NSS wing of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, today on 6th May, 2022 organized the first session of live yoga demonstration at the college multipurpose hall. This yoga session was held as part of the 100 days countdown leading up to International Yoga Day on 21st June 2022.
The resource person for the yoga session was Shri Mayank Vashishtha (Qualified Yoga Instructor) from the Art of Living Organization. He began the session by engaging the students with a talk on the importance of Yoga for the mind, body and soul. After that different Yoga asanas Meditation, pranayama, Kapal-Bharti, Vajara-asan, Trikonasana, Brastakaprayam, Bhramripranayam, etc.to relieve stress and tensions in the mind and body were performed during the session.
A total of over 70 NSS student volunteers of EJM College participated in the yoga session. The event was coordinated by Padma Wangchok (Convener NSS Wing EJM College Leh, Asstt Prof. Zoology). The event was attended by the Principal of EJM College, Dr Sameena Iqbal and NSS EJM College Committee Members: Sonam Angmo (Asstt Prof. English), Jigmet Yangdol (Asstt.Prof. Commerce), Yoga Instructors, and NSS student volunteers of the college.

Department of Botany, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh organises one day Botanical talk and Interactive session with Rev. Elijah Spalbar Gergan, founder of Suru valley Public School Kargil, former principal of Moravian Mission School Leh and the first botanist from Ladakh on 21st May, 2022 at EJM College Leh. Dr Sameena Iqbal, worthy principal EJM College was the chief guest on the occasion. The programme was attended by students of botany department and faculty members. The programme begins with the welcome speech and formal introduction of the guest speaker by Dr Konchok Dorjey, Assistant Professor of Botany. Worthy principal Dr Sameena Iqbal in her speech emphasized on the importance of organising such programmes for the academic progress in the college and welfare of studnets. She also appreciates the effort of botany department and also thanked worthy speaker Rev. ES Gergan for gracing the occasion. Mr Elijah Spalbar Gergan gave a detailed talk on his early life story and the educational challenges faced by Ladakhis in the past decade.
He also talked on the importance of spiritual and moral values in life and emphasized that self-introspection, clean living, hard work, faith, discipline, authority and learning from mothers are the greatest tools of education and life. He then gave a detailed talk on botanical studies in Ladakh and stressed on nature walk and learning beyond the classroom amidst natural surroundings. It was followed by an interactive session and felicitation of worthy speaker with memento and honorarium. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Mrs Razia Parveen, Sr. Assistant Professor of botany department.
The NSS Wing of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh today observed ‘World bicycle Day’ in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kender and Sports and Youth welfare Department today on 3rd of June 2022 at NDS Stadium Leh Ladakh. In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared 3rd June as International World Bicycle Day. The resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes "the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport. Keeping in the view of this, the NSS Wing of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh today observed ‘World bicycle Day’ in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kender and Sports and Youth welfare Department today on 3rd of June 2022 at NDS Stadium Leh Ladakh under Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.
The event consisted of 7.5 km cycle rally in which the 100 students of different schools actively participated. After those refreshments to the participants and the organisers were served.
Mr. Padma Wangchok Assistant Professor Zoology along with the NSS volunteers made all the possible arrangements along with members of Nehru Yuva Kender.
The Chief Excecutive Councillor Advocate Tashi Dawa was Chief Guest of the event, Member of Parliament Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal was Guest of honour, Ravinder kumar Sports Secretary UT Administration Ladakh and Smt Tajamul Ara Deputy Director Nehru Yuva Kender were also present at the event.
The World Environment Day was celebrated in the college campus which was jointly organised by the Deptt.of EVS , Green Club , Eco Club and Student Council of the college.Series of events were held which include painting competition, essay writing competition and plantation drive.
Around 50 students participated in these competitions and more than 100 students carried out the plantation in the college campus.
Department of Zoology organized a field trip to a fisheries farm at Chuchot Shamma on 20-06-2022. A total of 41 students from the 5th semester, Batch 2020, and two faculty members from the Department of Zoology, Assistant Professor Nasima Bano and Assistant Professor Padma Wangchok, were part of this tour. During the field trip, Mr. Zabir Ahmad, a progressive farmer and Entrepreneur shared his knowledge with the students on the Rainbow trout culture in Leh-Ladakh, especially its cold-water culture during winter. He also discussed the Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) technology with students; practically, they can understand the RAS technology for rainbow trout cold water fisheries culture. The subject expert also discussed the Aquaculture and its scope for students. In the field, students also observed and understood composting for poultry litter and its uses in farming bulb vegetables like onion, garlic, etc. Aromatic plants and distillation assembly (used to separate liquids from non-volatile solids) were also shown to the students. The students also benefitted from the idea and knowledge of Mushroom cultivation and the virtual demonstration of Lavender farming in the high altitudes of Ladakh. This fisheries farm visit helps students to learn and understand aquaculture practically.
The department of Psychology, EJM College Leh in collaboration with University of Rochester(US) organized a four day workshop for Research Assistants(RA) from 8-6-22 to 18-6-2022, two workshop per week. The RAs are part of a project that examine the relationships among Climate Change, Mental Health and Resilience. The workshop was organized with the intent to train/equip the RAs with research design for the project, especially Photovoice, conduct in-depth interviews, analytic techniques and presentation/ exhibition. Six Research Participants, mainly college students attended the workshop.
Over all it was a very positive and enriching experience for everyone. We would like to thank everyone who has played a role, in creating, supporting, participating in and executing the workshop.
Under the aegis of PHQ Ladakh and supervision of SP Traffic Sh.Mohd Rafi Giri-JKPS, Traffic Police organized " Cyber Jagrukta Divas" under the banner " Azadi Ka Amrit Muhatsav " here in DC Conference Hall , Leh. The instant cyber awareness event was attended by officers/ officials of traffic police, students of EJM College, Leh and expert guest speakers of J&K Bank and Axis Bank Leh. To start the event DySP Traffic Leh Sh.Mohd Baqir welcomed guest speakers, students and traffic police officers/officials for sparing their time and attending the event . He then invited J&K Bank expert in the field for deliberations on the topic.
From J&K Bank Smt. Safina Zakir, Manager , Incharge Digital Alternate Channels presented a detailed PPT on Cyber and Online Crime and Preacautions Required Thereof. She elaborated on different types of modes which are adapted by fraudsters to cheat public and how public can protect themselves from online frauds while adhering to important precautions in this regard. After J&K bank expert in the field , second elaborate PPT was given by Sh. Samiullah Manager of Axis Bank who covered all the other areas like phishing, identity theft, security hacker, cyberstalking, ransomware, account hacking , malware, viruses etc. which were left over by first expert. He explained in detail as how every citizen needs to be aware of every kind of online fraud and cheating and how every one of us can save him/ herself from the impending danger. He advised students not to fall pray of different online frauds and scams and in this regard they can visit bank offices anytime for guidance. Both the experts were asked several questions by students and participants who were answered to the satisfaction of question posers.
Other officers/ guests who attended the awareness programme included DTI Leh Sh.Dorjay Angchuk, Flying Squad Incharges Inspt. Jameel-ur-Rehman and SI Mohd Shafi, Asstt. Prof. Chemistry of EJM College Smt. Stanzin Itga, Asstt.Prof English Smt. Sonam Angmo, JK Bank Manager Sh. Tashi Wanghuk, Sh.Arshad Latief and Smt. Rahilla Yasmeen of Axis Bank and so on . All the participants appreciated the awareness programme and requested for more such events in future . DySP Traffic presented vote of thanks . Department of philosophy, EJM College, organized a talk on “Development of Bhoti in Information Technology (IT) under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on 25th August, 2022 in Smart Classroom at Eliezer Joldan Memorial College,Leh. Geshe Lobsang Monlam, Director, Monlam IT Research Centre, Dharamsala was invited as a guest speaker for the talk. The programme was started with welcome address by Dr. Tashi Dorjey, Head, Department of Philosophy, EJM College. Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Principal, EJM College, Leh, Khenpo Konchok Thubstan, Head, Department of Bhoti Language and Literature, CIBS, Choglamsar, students and teachers from Social Science Departments of the college attended the talk. The guest speaker shared the importance of language as a foundation for preserving culture in the society. With the reference of Bhoti language, it is used by 10 millions as a native language and 10 millions as academic and religious purpose in the world. He spoke about history of Bhoti Language in IT section and how much he played important role in it as IT engineer in developing software in the field of technology for Bhoti language since two decades. In his presentation it is said that there will be more robots than workers and more computers than human brains by 2030 in the advance of Information Technology. In order to preserve Bhoti Language, it demands the administration working on it effectively and systematically in the society. We need more population to use the language in the field of business and IT section in the future. Tsering Lamo, the student of philosophy studying in 5th semester, moderated the programme and it ends with the vote of thanks proposed by Miss. Arifa Radhu, student of Philosophy studying in 3rd semester.
An investor awareness workshop was organised on August 26,2022 jointly by Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) and Commerce Department of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh on: “Financial Empowerment through Wealth Creation”.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Principal Eliezer Joldan Memorial College by facilitating the guest with the Traditional Khatak, This was soon followed by the formal welcome speech by Ms. Jigmet Yangdol, Asstt Prof Commerce. On the occasion, Shri Surya Kant Sharma, Senior Consultant AMFI, who was keynote speaker in the workshop at the outset touched upon the importance of financial security of individuals. He duly emphasized that an investor should first think and ensure adequate life insurance, reasonable medical insurance cover and an emergency fund before embarking upon the journey of wealth creation through sustained investments which is most essential for prosperity. He then made a vehement plea for regular savings and increase of savings every year minimum by 10%. He then dealt in detail on the need for wealth creation for prosperity and emphasised that investors should not be money accumulator but wealth creator which only would make them comfortable with regard to their money needs for their milestones in life. He then advised participants that they should look at real return and not on notional return as inflation and tax liability substantially takes away major portion of notional return. He cautioned participants that most of the investments except in governmental schemes have risk but risk can be managed by simple formula :– Think, understand and invest. He also emphasized the need to have practical financial planning of their families in place for focused investment and also the need for practicing rule of compounding in investments for higher return in the long run. He then shared basic information on various investment avenues available in the market viz. Government/RBI bonds, corporate bonds, Government schemes (Post office schemes, PPF, NPS, Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, securities market etc. real estate, gold and securities market. All these avenues are different and have distinct features and investors should investment their hard earned money according to his/her risk apatite and time horizon of investment.
Shri Sharma cautioned general investor not to enter into securities market directly as there are inherent risks in the market and unless the investor have sound knowledge of market, sectors, economy, international economy etc. he/she should desist from entering into the market directly. Instead, mutual funds are the best option available for general investor wherein he/she can invest a minimum amount of Rs.500/- though Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) and built a good corpus over a period of time. He also mentioned that in mutual funds there are number of schemes as per risk apatite and time horizon of investors. There is a wide spectrum of mutual funds schemes ranging from equity funds to debt funds to exchange traded funds which can be chosen by an investor as per his risk apatite and investment horizon. At the end, he emphatically cautioned participants not to invest their hard earned money on the advice of others including agents and never never in unregulated fund mobilisation schemes – Ponzi scheme, chit funds and committees etc. - which give assurance for higher and quick return at the beginning but ultimately vanish with the hard earned money of investors. Not so affluent class of investors are more susceptible to such false allurement and we all have a social responsibility to make them aware about the menace of such schemes and impress upon them not to invest their money in such schemes. He also informed that as per a survey, investors have lost more than ten lakh crores of rupees in such unregulated fund mobilisation schemes. After the sessions, a question answer session was made open for the participants that was moderated by Ms Thinless Chondol( Asstt Prof Commerce). The students asked lot of questions on personal finance which were satisfactorily answered by the expert. The proceedings of the event was anchored by Sonam Angmo(Commerce student, EJMC). The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by program coordinator Manzoor Hussain,(Asstt Prof Commerce).
The guests of the program was Dr. Shrinivasa. K. Rao, Madam Jayshree Shanker and Dr. Jigmet Wangyal. The keynote speaker of the Program was Dr. Srinivasa K. Rao, a New York based biomedical Scientist. The program started with a Welcome address by Dr. Stanzin Noryang, H.O.D Biochemistry. It was followed by welcoming of the guests with traditional “Khatags" by Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Principal EJM College.
The session began with Madam Jayshree who shared her work experiences with the students of Ladakh in the field of education. She also talked about her role in women empowerment in Ladakh with special focus on educating the Nuns of Ladakh. Her effort paid of well, when the students and nuns associated with her passed with high percentage in matric and higher secondary examination. She also talked about her enthusiasm to work for Ladakh and how this lead to her meeting with Dr. Shrinivasa who also shares the same passion.
Later, Dr. Shrinivasa, the key speaker of the program deliver his talk on “Food as Medicine using metabolimics”. He talked about how food can be used as medicine when consumed wisely. But on the other hand improper uptake of food can also be the reason of many diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart disease etc. He showed a chart with various types of herbs, vegetables, pulses and fruits which act as medicine if incorporated wisely in our diet and also introduced “quinoa” to the audience. A super packed grain with nutrients and vitamins, high fiber, rich protein and Gluten free and a super food for diabetes. Later he motivated students to dream big and also guided and showed the students ways to begin writing research papers.
The talk was attended by Faculty members of EJM. Nearly 80 students from different departments like Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Psychology, Education and Social work attended the talk. The talk concluded with vote of thanks by Stanzin Namgail, a student of 1st semester, Biochemistry Department.

In order to instill professionalism, enhance communicative skills, and familiarise the modus operandi to identify letters in a message transmitted by radio, telephone and encrypted messages, the universally recognised NATO Phonetic Alphabet, military alphabet, also known as ICAO alphabet, was effectively introduced to the cadets by speaker Dr. Tsering Norphel, Department of Sociology EJM College, Leh.

Principal Dr. Sameena Iqbal graced the programme as the chief guest and patron of programme.
About 70 students and faculties were present. Prof Kunzang Dolma of Chemistry Department, welcome the guests and gave the overview of the programme.
Principal Ma’am Dr. Samina Iqbal appreciated students for preparing 3D-Model of molecules and she also appreciated chemistry teachers for taking such initiatives and organizing such programmes.
About 7 groups presented models on different topics including Organometallics, Heterocyclic, Biochemical, Inorganic and Organic molecules. Models were judged by Prof. Razia Parveen Department of Botany, Prof. Stanzin Itga and Prof. Kunzang Dolma.
Principal Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Prof. Sabina Bashir and Prof. Razia Parveen facilitated the students with gifts and certificates to the student group who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Certificates to participated students were also given. Programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Prof. Stanzin Itga of Chemistry Department.
Overall Programme proved to be a fruitful one for all students.
Dr. Shah Nawaz Regional Director IGNOU visited EJM College Leh IGNOU Study Centre and organized one day session on pre- admission counseling. During this session Dr. Shah Nawaz Dar gave presentation on various programmes conducted by IGNOU in his pre- admission counseling. He also high lighted about the various e- learning resources provided by IGNOU through their website portals which include e-Gyan kosh, study material, Swayam Prabha channels, Gyan Darshan webcast, MOOCs for credit courses, Introduction of dual degree programmes and I-Gram portal for grievance redressal. He also mentioned that IGNOU is conducting a six day workshop on NEP. Ms. Stanzin Itga welcomed the chief guest. Momentos to the dignitary was presented by Principal EJM College Leh Dr. Sameena Iqbal and Principal GDC Khaltse Ms. Stanzin Yangdol. Vote of thanks was presented by Asstt. Prof. Padma Wangchok EJM College, Leh.
The event was held in continuation with International Week of the Deaf celebrated every year from 19 to 25 September all over the world.
The programme started with a demonstration of sign language by the students of 5th Semester. It was followed by a screening of an Oscar nominated film ‘The Silent Child’.
At the end, a short skit was presented by EJM Students on the theme ‘Sign Language Unite Us’. It highlighted the importance of inclusivity and fight against inequalities and injustice. It also stressed that a small help and support from a friend, family or teacher can change the lives of deaf people and other sign language users.
The welcome speech was presented by Hajira Bano, Assistant Professor Mass Communication and Vote of thanks was proposed by Samina Rehman, Assistant Professor, Sociology.
Department of Travel and Tourism Management EJM College Leh organised an industry - institute interface on the event of World Tourism Day 2022. Theme of the event was: Ret hinking Tourism.

EJM college in collaboration with LI and VKV organised a session on " Living a Healthy Life" by Padmashree Dr Tsering Norbu, Senior Physician. He talked about different kinds of substance abuses, symptoms and preventive measures.
The Department of Environmental Sciences organized a one day exposure tour for AECC Ist semester students
Around 305 students accompanied by Ms Sabina Bashir Senior Assistant Professor and Dr. Sonam Wangmo Assistant Professor joined the tour. The tour initiated with celebration of Wild Bird Day in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation and Birds Club of Ladakh (WCBCL) at Sindhu Ghat Leh. Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Ms. Padma Angmo was the chief guest on the occasion. Retired DFO Sh. Mohd Abbas briefed the students how wild birds habitats are under threat in the name development. The students along with the guest did bird watching from around 7:00am to 10:30 am.
After that the students visited LREDA (Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency) at Phey, there Senior Project Officer Chostar briefed the students about how Ladakh is harnessing Solar energy at such large scale and especially after the formation of Union Territory they are getting more funds to harness solar energy and are trying to replace the non renewable source of energy at large scale. The students then visited Waste Segregation Plant at Solar Colony, one of the employees of Rural Development Department explained how the waste from whole is collected from Bomgad landfill was collected and segregated and how different wastes are recycled, they also advised the students to generate less waste as it’s very hard to recycle a waste once generated. Lastly the students visited, STP (Sewage Treatment Plant), the Project Engineer explained the whole operation of the plant and briefed about the plant including
its capacity of 300000 litres per day.
The speaker on this occasion was Prof. Sanjay Kumar Swain (Dean R & D) from Department of Physics, NISER Odisha.
The program began with a welcome address by Kunzang Namgail, Department of Physics.
Prof. Sanjay Kumar Swain talked at length about the Recent discoveries in field of science and how those are actually observed. He stressed on how Physics is omnipresent in our day to day life.
He further mentioned about the Scopes and Research students may adopt for further studies. Prof. Sanjay Kumar Swain advised the students to get enrolled in the NISER Summer Intership programme which will help them built strong foundation in Study of Physics and get more exposure toward physics. He also suggested the faculty of the department to apply to NISER Teaching Internship and Research work and also proposed other agencies
The Valedictory function of the second edition of the Intercollegiate Volleyball tournament 2022 jointly organised by Physical Education Department, University of Ladakh in collaboration with Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh was held today at EJM College. The tournament that was inaugurated yesterday by Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Padma Angmo (IIS) came to a formal closing today. The ten teams competing from various degree colleges of Ladakh were facilitated today. The Chief Guest for the tournament was Prof. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Registrar University of Ladakh. Other Special invitees included: Prof. Deskyong Namgyal, Dean & Controller of Examinations UOL, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal GDC Khaltsi, Prof. Tashi Ldawa, Dr Tsering Motup, Principal GDC Nubra, Mr Dawa Nurboo Joldan, Mr Nawang Tundup, Asstt Registrar UOL, and Mr Tsering Tashi, District Youth Service Officer. The Valedictory event began with a welcome address by Principal EJM College, Dr Sameena Iqbal who invoked the good memory of Eliezer Joldan in whose name the college and the tournament has been named.
She stressed on sports learning being one of the hallmarks of education. The Chief Guest: Prof Sharma, Registrar UOL in his address appreciated the participants for displaying exemplary team spirit and congratulated all the winners and participants of the Intercollegiate Volleyball tournament. Dr Jigmat Dachen, Dean Students Welfare, UOL gave a detailed report of the tournament co-hosted by Director Physical Education EJM College Leh, Lt. Dr. Ujwala Koche. The winning teams of both Boys and Girls from EJM College and runners up team of boys from GDC Kargil and runners up girls team from CIBS were facilitated with trophies, cash prizes and certificates. The event concluded with a dance performance by the students and formal vote of thanks from Dr Tsering Norphel. All faculties, staff and students of EJM College and sports officials from the Govt. Degree colleges and other departments of Ladakh were in attendance at the event.
The NSS Unit of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College organised a mega Cleanliness Drive at Sindhu Ghat Leh.
The initiative was carried out as part of the Government's celebration of ‘Mega Swachchata Diwas’ on 19th October 2022.
Under the ongoing Clean India Campaign 2.0, the NSS Unit of EJM College under its Convenor: Padma Wangchuk, ( Asstt Professor, Zoology) today cleaned and collected plastic waste and other forms of garbage of about 200 kgs at Sindhu Ghat, Leh. The aim of the Campaign was to raise awareness and ensure that the natural surroundings of Ladakh are always kept clean. NSS unit members: Sonam Angmo( Asstt Professor, English) and Jigmet Yangdol( Asstt Professor, Commerce) along with EJM faculty members and staff volunteered and participated in the Cleanliness Campaign.
Visit of Mr Jangjilong Regional Director NSS,Regional Directorate of NSS, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India And Pre RD Camp Selection 2022. On 16/11/2022 Mr Jangjilong Regional Director NSS, Regional Directorate of NSS, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India visited Ladakh and inspected NSS Units of EJM College, University of Ladakh, physically and Govt Degree College Kargil virtually. He also supervised selection of Candidates for the Pre RD Camp 2022. Nearly 50 NSS volunteers from the EJM COLLEGE and around 20 volunteers of GDC Kargil competed for the Pre RD Camp selection.

While appreciating the achievers Dr. Samina stated, “An outright reason to organise such programmes is that the students are keeping up pace with progressively increasing standards of education.
